¿What to pack?
Considering the weather in Perú, we have put together our definitive list of what to pack for a trip to Cusco, Machu Picchu and Puno:
- A good pair of hiking boots or walking shoes.
- A poncho for those downpours. The weather changes very quickly here.
- A warm jacket. Afternoons and mornings can be very cold, especially between June and September.
- Good quality sunscreen and sun hat.
- Bring clothing that you can overlap. Warm layers and pants that can be unbuttoned into shorts are great. You will only need a couple of changes of clothes, as you can wash anywhere for little money.
- A backpack to carry all your things, ideally with a hip strap to make long days of hiking and exploring more comfortable.
- A bottle of water. Plastic disposal is a real problem in the Sacred Valley, so we recommend that you buy large bottles and refill the water in your own reusable bottle.
- Small first aid kit for basic cuts and bruises and stomach upset.
- A spare pair of prescription glasses or contact lenses plus a copy of your prescription is a good idea.
- A small pocket flashlight.
- Earplugs for when you are stuck in a noisy room or want to sleep on the bus or plane.
- A waterproof cover for your backpack is a must, especially if you travel during the rainy season.
- A hat, scarf and gloves for those cold mornings and afternoons.
- Pack your toiletries in zip-lock bags to avoid any unnecessary mess.
- Insect repellent, especially if you plan to trek or visit Machu Picchu.
- Camera with a lot of memory and battery for all those great photos that you will definitely want to take!
- Carry enough locks to store your important belongings, even in your hotel room.
